HGTV Magazine Block Party

Monday I hit up the HGTV Magazine Block Party Social Media Mixer in NYC! It was a fun, colorful afternoon and I had such a great time!

Coffee, notebook... I was ready to listen  and soak up the knowledge and insight presented by  HGTV's awesome lineup of guest speakers.

The best part of the event for me, were the talks given by Sam Ushiro of Aww.Sam and Joy Cho of Oh Joy! Annnd I got to talk to them both!!! It was wonderful to meet two of my favorite creative people!

HGTV put together a great event!

World Maker Faire New York 2014

JT & I checked out the World Maker Fair at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, NY. It's a festival with a show-and-tell vibe that focuses on technology, invention and creativity. It's a place where participation is encouraged and it is a really great event for both kids and adults!

We made rocket ship badges at the RadioShack "Learn to Solder" tent.

Meet KitRex... a 3D paper velociraptor kit you build at home. They offer smaller kits in a variety of colors.

This was one of the larger 3D printers I saw at the event... but there was a full size car at the event that was made entirely by a 3D printer.

This was a fun one... you make your badge with your initials and then you have to answer questions correctly in order to activate different colors in the led light.

There is really so much more to see and do at Maker Faire, these are just some of the highlights of this great event!

Smorgasburg

One of my favorite pieces of architecture in NYC is the Brooklyn Bridge (it might be my most favorite if it weren't for the fact that I would fall asleep looking at the Empire State building from my Hoboken bedroom). I love the vibe in Brooklyn and they have one of the best views.

My husband and I decided to go check out their Smorgasburg - a "Flea Food Market" at Brooklyn Bridge Park. They had an overwhelming number of vendors... and all of the food looked AMAZING!

Since it was hot out we decided to start with a coconut drink from Excell's Kingston Eatery... they hacked the top off of it with a machete!

Trying a Ramen burger was a must for us. We split it so that we would have room to try some of the other things that were tempting us.

I had heard about the doughnuts from Dough and had to have one... it was wonderful!

Dolce de leche doughnut with slivered almonds from Dough... yum!

We will have to visit Smorgasburg again in the fall so that we can try some of the food from the other vendors!

Scratch

JT & I had a date night at Scratch DJ Academy last night in NYC. Sratch DJ Academy was founded Rob Principe and Jam Master Jay as a way to make learning to DJ more accessible to those who are interested. 

We had so so so much fun! We learned the baby scratch, the scribble scratch and the transformer scratch. JT was a natural, I was not nearly as good as him but I still learned a lot and had a blast doing it!

I loved the art there too! This piece is by vinyl record artist Walter Lobyn Hamilton.

I have a new respect for (real) DJs!

A NYC Walk With My Husband On New Year's Eve

JT & I decided to head into the city for New Year's Eve with no real plan. Sounds crazy I know, but the city is pretty awesome on New Year's Eve... awesomely empty. Everyone who is out is either at Times Square or out at a private party leaving the usually overcrowded attractions blissfully desolate.

We stopped by Rockefeller Center to see the tree.

Said hello to Fortitude, the lion that guards the New York Public Library.  He was looking dapper, decked out in wreath.

We visited the Plaza hotel to grab a bite to eat and see their Christmas tree.

Took a walk down 5th Ave to look at the elaborate window displays. As usual Bergdorf's windows were my favorite.

The Empire State Building was lit up in a brightly colored tie dye effect!

We left the city around 9 and made it back home in time to pop the bubbly!

Christmas In New York

I love New York anytime of year... but Christmas time is my favorite! JT and I spent yesterday having a holiday day in the city. We indulged, eating macarons and sipping on hot chocolate while taking in all of the beautiful city light displays. We went to Columbus Circle, then cut through Central Park to head up 5th Ave. The holiday displays on 5th are amazing- the shops all seem to be trying to one up each other with gorgeous lights and well dressed windows. New York is beautiful!
