Take A Moment Tuesday; Lilly Pulitzer Post Card

I have a HUGE dislike for Tuesday, so I make an effort every week to do something to brighten my TuesdayAnd true to form, today was awful! So I took a few minutes to make it better. Here's how:

This is my Lilly Pulitzer calendar I have on my desk at work. Today is the last day of January so I slipped the card out of the easel and went to throw it away. Then I thought to myself "this is a really pretty print to just throw away".

All of the calendar cards are gorgeous (of course), about the size of a postcard and blank on the back. So I decided at the end of each month I would write my mama(who lives in Western NY) a quick note on the back of the card and send it as a postcard!

So I get to play with markers, relieve some stress, brighten my mama's day, and recycle? Yay!

Happy Tuesday Y'all! xo Lizzie

Note:
Postage prices just increased on January 15th. The cost to send a larger postcard such as this is currently $0.45.

Take A Moment Tuesday; 3 Happy Things

Jeff and I have been together almost four years now. Our anniversary is in a few weeks so I bought myself an early anniversary gift, which arrived today (hooray for Tuesday!). It's an adorable iPhone cover personalized with our initials. I guess it could also be an early Valentine's Day present to myself...

I bought it from Plum Street Prints. You can choose your own colors! I am on a pink & aqua kick so I went that route.

It was time to take off our holiday sheets in our bedroom which depressed me terribly. My mom gave me these fun embroidered Paris pillowcases so I used them and they made me a little bit happier about the peppermint bedding being gone! Thanks mama!

And lastly... Pink tulips!

After asking Jeff's sister to be my bridesmaid she brought me tulips! Very sweet! (puppy likes them too!)

Tuesday isn't half bad! xo Lizzie

Take A Moment Tuesday; Turtle Brownies

The recipe for my favorite brownies...

Prepare your favorite brownie recipe, but put it in a 13 by 9in pan. This is what I use for the brownie layer:

3/4 cup unsalted butter
3 ounces unsweetened chocolate coarsely chopped
3 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour

Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 13 by 9 in pan.

1. In a saucepan melt the butter and sugar on low heat. Once it's melted and mixed, let it cool for 10 mins.

2. Beat the eggs, butter and sugar together with a wooden spoon. Stir in the vanilla and beat in the chocolate mixture, and the salt. Add the flour and stir until smooth. Do not over mix it, it will make it tough.

3. Scrape batter into prepared pan and cook for 20 mins.

Note: You don't want to leave the brownies too under cooked because the caramel layer is going to be pretty gooey. Gooey + gooey = gooey mess!

Caramel layer...

Melt the caramels with the cream in a saucepan, stirring frequently until smooth. Once smooth, add the pecan and stir until evenly coated.

Let cool and then refrigerate until set.

Now for the chocolate drizzle...

Melt 3 ounces of semi sweet chocolate with 2 1/2 tablespoons heavy cream, and 1 teaspoon light corn syrup.

Drizzle the melted mixture over the top of the caramel pecan layer with a fork. Move the fork in a diagonal direction.

Put back in the fridge and let the chocolate drizzle get firm. Then cut and serve!

I serve little pieces because this brownie is insanely rich and decadent! Crazy good! Make sure you have lots of milk...

take a moment tuesday; a bit of holiday happiness

Decided to make paper snowflakes tonight...

I used red, aqua and white cardstock paper. I finished the white flakes with a sprinkle of aqua glitter.

Can't wait to show you where I am hanging them! I will share more photos tomorrow! xo Lizzie

Take a Moment Tuesday; Happy Little Things

3 little things are making my Tuesday a little better...

My new necklace made by the very talented Danielle of The Merriweather Council. I am working with her on a much bigger project- she is so great to work with!

Beautiful blown glass macaron ornaments from Sur La Table.  I put them on my pink cake plate for this picture and my JT walked by and said he wanted to eat them. Last year I waited until December to order from Sur La Table and everything I wanted was out of stock. I did not make that mistake this year!

We got our pictures back from One and Only Paris Photography- I am having fun choosing prints to give our parents in their Christmas cards.

It's one day closer to Friday, I can be glad about that! xo Lizzie

take a moment tuesday; gelato & a small bouquet

Ciao Bella!
I am a fan of Ciao Bella gelato. They have great flavors, perfect chewy, creamy texture and colorful fun pints. My favorite flavor of their's is malted milk ball. They just came out with a line of gelato sandwiches so of course I had to try them and they didn't disappoint!

It was good!

Tiny vintage Bromo-Seltzer bottle that I purchased at a flea market this weekend- cost me almost nothing.

Lilies I cut this morning.

Colorful ribbon.

take a moment tuesday; diy creamsicle bath salts

Business is really picking up for me, which is awesome! I am bending wire for hangers as fast as my little fingers can. It's making my muscles sore from  having to muscle & manipulate the wire into place! Nothing a little break and a hot bath with homemade bath salt can't cure!

Ingredients:
4 cups Epsom salt
(you could substitute a cup and a half of another salt but Epsom salt is great for sore muscles and is my favorite. If you want to put another salt in yours I recommend Himalaya Pink Sea Salt its really pretty or use another sea salt)

1/2 tsp liquid glycerine (this is at most pharmacys, if they do not have it then try a supermarket or baking supply store.)

Essential oils or extract of your choice (I used Vanilla and Orange extract)

After I mixed the glycerine and the salt together I divided the mixture into 2 bowls.I put the orange extract in one bowl and added a tiny bit of orange food coloring (don't add too much!). And in the second bowl I added the vanilla extract. So I have a bowl of cream and a bowl of orange!

I use canning jars to hold the finished bath salt. Makes a for nice presentation if you use them as favors or gifts and they come in different sizes.

Alternate the two colors when filling the jars, so it has a swirl effect.

I used water colors, heavy card stock paper and a Popsicle stick to make a creamsicle tag. I made a basic plaid pattern to cut out for the lids of the jars.

Creamsicle Bath Soak

These make great gifts and inexpensive party favors for bridal & baby showers. They smell awesome and it's great to actually know what exactly is in the bath salt in your bath water!

Take a few minutes for yourself today! Soak it up! xo Lizzie

take a moment tuesday; flower power nails and joss stone

It's the last day of my 20's and I am taking in every second of it! 2 things are making my day more beautiful...

My nails are party ready! I used Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips. These were a total impulse buy! I was drawn in by the bright colors. I didn't have very high hopes for how my nails would turn out using these so I was shocked when they actually came out looking like the glossy poster on the end cap at CVS.

Contents inside the box.

Strips before application. The strips are made of real nail polish.

These were a lot easier to use than what I had expected. After I got the first nail done, the rest were a breeze. I got them all done in 30 mins and there is no dry time with these!

They come in many different patterns & colors (butterflies, houndstooth, blue jean, sparkle, etc). I went with the "Girl Flower" print because they were so bright and look like a party on my nails.

Now that I have flower power nails it seems only fitting that I listen to Joss Stone's newest album! She released her CD today (7/26)! I bought it for myself as a birthday present and as usual I am impressed by Ms. Stone. It is a very different sound than what I expected or what I am used to, it's more raw and grown up with no sugary candy pop coating. This album reaffirmed why she is my favorite singer! The girl has talent and I look forward to hearing even more from her when she performs as a part of her new super group, Super Heavy! You put my favorite rocker (Mick Jagger!) with my favorite vocalist? I can't handle it!

Hope you are having a groovy Tuesday! ;) Keep on truckin' towards the weekend! xo Lizzie

take a moment tuesday

Is it really only Tuesday?  Things I do to get me through to the weekend...

Painted my nails. Wonderful way to slow things down and take a min to myself.
Makes for a great excuse not to do anything, "Oh yeah I would... but my nails aren't dry yet!"  ;)

Nail polish color is by essie called "smooth sailing". It's a beautiful deep glittery periwinkle blue. Reminds me of a river glistening in the summer sun. I hope the rest of my week is "smooth sailing"!

"smooth sailing" by essie

espresso with just a touch of frothy milk and a dusting of chocolate & sugar. mmmm...

"larabee dot" espresso cup and saucer

I recommend topping your coffee drinks with chocolate shavings, it makes your small moment of relaxation feel more indulgent and special. I use sugar grinders from Cape Herb, love the butterscotch & vanilla one!

There is nothing like a blank sheet of paper and colored pencils to clear my head. I see endless possibilities. A little art therapy does wonders for my mood. I stare at the sheet for a moment of dazed happiness, a million ideas jumping and elbowing their way to be be picked first, and then... I unleash! My creativity comes pouring out of me and all is good in the world again.

I did my part, now COME OOONN weekend!
