Happy Halloween!

Halloween is cancelled where I live because of the mess that hurricane Sandy left in New Jersey. Things have felt and looked like Halloween for awhile though this month so I don't feel like I am missing anything. Thought I would share a few of my favorite Halloween sightings from this month...

Grave yard cupcake from a favorite local bakery.

I took this photo of a NYC "pumpkin patch". Life is so different in the city!

This is the sweater from Nightmare on Elm Street. It is HUGE (could fit 6 or more people), it was used for a special effect that made it look like Freddy had demons popping out of his chest. We saw this on our visit to the Museum of Moving Image. Spooky...

Hope everyone stays safe out there.
Happy Halloween!

stormy activities

I am very uneasy about hurricane Sandy approaching New Jersey and New York. JT and I feel that we are as prepared as we can be. We stock piled ice and bottled water, blew up our air mattress since we will need to sleep away from the windows, gathered the flash lights and blankets and loaded up our pantry.

I am now organizing myself with activities for when the power goes out. It is helping keep my mind off the insane wind that is making me nervous.

While getting out all of our candles for when the power goes out, I found this "mac & cheese" candle JT got for Christmas last year. It made me laugh... it's a good time to use it!

The candle comes with a ceramic dish and a bag with a wick and loose wax "macaroni". Cute :)

Pulled out my manicure stuff. I might have a lot of time to play and experiment with nail polish colors and combinations if the power goes out.

Board games! Storms give us reason to finally play our favorite board games that normally get no love because we live in world where technology rules. My favorite board game is 221 B Baker Street! What's yours?

Some of the games JT & I will be playing.

And my last resort when I am bored... cleaning. eeeek! Let's hope the power stays on!!!

Everyone stay safe... I hope the storm eases up and just goes away. Sending positive vibes to everyone affected.

A "Reel" Date

JT and I spent yesterday in Astoria, a neighborhood in Queens, New York. We visited the Museum Of Moving Image... It was totally AWESOME! We had a private tour, presented to us by one of the museum educators. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun!

The museum is very well done. Many of the exhibits contain movie memorabilia donated from private collections. There are several interactive displays. My favorite was the voice over studio, where I got to voice over Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot. I was Sugar Kane! My voice coming out of Marilyn Monroe's body?! So fun!

JT & I made stop motion videos together. Check out one of our masterpieces below!

George Lucas is not a fan of people displaying stuff from his movies unless he makes money from it, but this Chewbacca mask was donated by the creator of the mask used in the movie, so he has no say :)

Mrs. Doubtfire mask used in the movie!

A costume from Men in Black

Vintage video games!

JT was allowed to play the very first video game ever made! They also had a bunch of other standing  vintage video game machines you could play. I played Mrs. Pac-Man!

We made a video flip book together! JT pretended he was King Kong and I pretended to be Anne Darrow. The book turned out really cute!

Me "acting" in our flip book!

There was an event going on at the museum to honor Jerry Nelson who died this year. He was one of the Muppeteers who worked with Jim Henson. Jerry Nelson's most notable character was Count Von Count but like all of the Muppeteers he played lots of other fun characters through the years. Many of the other Muppeteers were there to pay tribute to him. I took a picture of Dave Goelz who is The Great Gonzo!

Dave Goelz who played The Great Gonzo on Sesame Street!

After our tour we went to a screening of  Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. It was my first time seeing this movie- I loved it!!! The theater at the museum is very nice too!

After the movie we headed over to The Astor Room for dinner and cocktails. The Astor Room is located in an old movie studio where Chaplin pictures and many other movies were filmed back in the day!

The cocktails at The Astor Room are movie themed and they are very well crafted!!!

Flower Oysters (from Long Island!)

Shrimp cocktail and French onion soup! Both very good but the soup was a standout for me! Loved it!

This was such a fun and different date- I loved it! If you have never been to the Museum of Moving Image or to The Astor Room, you have to check them out! So great!

Pumpkin Mudslide; a happy halloween cocktail

I made pumpkin mudslides following a recipe from 3 Olives Vodka. I changed it up a bit by using chocolate chip ice cream and topping it with homemade chocolate whipped cream!

I sifted the powdered sugar and cocoa powder for the chocolate whipped cream to make sure there were no lumps.

I used Graeter's Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (yay Cincinnati!) to make the mudslide.

Mmmm pumpkin!

Cake vodka

I colored a jack-o-lantern face on the glasses with a sharpie marker. I won't run if it gets wet and it comes off quite easily with nail polish remover after your party is over.

It was yummy!
Happy Halloween!

Emergency Compliment

I'm feeling sad today and JT knew it so he sent me a link to a site and it made me smile. I wanted to share,it's...

You get a new compliment every time you hit refresh. Love the blindingly bright colors.

No, it won't entirely change your mood, but every little bit helps.

A large box wrapped in Hello Kitty duct tape (adorable!) was waiting for me when I came home the other night.

It was from one of my best friends from home. Home is Lewiston, NY. The box was filled with lots of goodies from Buffalo, NY.

As Jt said, "She just out Elizabethed, Elizabeth."

Yum!
